What is a bog?
Terms such as bog, peatland, fen, swamp, and marsh are used to describe a wetland area or habitat. A bog is a very acidic freshwater wetland of soft, spongy ground consisting primarily of partially decayed plant matter called peat.
Bogs are isolated from water sources other than precipitation and are dominated by heath plants. Bogs are generally found in cool, northern climates in the United States primarily in the Northeast and northern Midwest.
